OUR PROJECTS

Hill Street

Discover our recent project on Hill Street in Edinburgh, where we executed restoration and replacement work with precision, adhering to conservation requirements and Grade A listing standards. Explore the key details below for insights into our professional approach and meticulous attention to revitalising the windows in this newtown property.

Works Carried Out

Window Replacement

Before the replacement process, the windows showed signs of age and wear. We carefully adhered to conservation guidelines and the Grade A listing, replacing them like-for-like. Our new double-glazed windows, crafted from responsibly sourced redwood timber, maintain the property's charm while improving energy efficiency.

Take a look at the images below to find out how the old windows looked before our team removed them and installed the replacements.

Heritage Slimtech Units

Our installations feature Heritage Slimtech units, providing modern energy efficiency without compromising on the traditional charm of the property. These units offer superior insulation while seamlessly blending with the historic architecture.

Renovation of Existing Cases

We undertook comprehensive renovation work on existing cases, including the removal of any rotten timbers such as sills, facings, and casements. Our expert team repaired casements and pockets, ensuring the structural integrity of the windows for years to come.

Sash Cord Replacement

All sash cords were replaced with durable nylon core cotton sash cords, guaranteeing smooth operation and longevity.

Exterior Restoration

We meticulously sanded the exterior of existing window cases, upgraded weights to counterbalance new sashes, and applied a coat of primer undercoat for added protection against the elements.

Traditional Pointing & Ironmongery

Traditional methods were employed for pointing, with the removal of existing pointing, application of expanding foam, and re-mastic using traditional sand mastic. Additionally, new ironmongery, including a simplex system for bottom sashes to swing inwards, was installed using traditional brass fittings, preserving the property's authentic character.

Finishing Touches

To complete the project, we applied an oil-based paint for exterior protection and a satin finish for the interiors, ensuring both aesthetic appeal and durability.

At The Sash & Case Restoration Company, we take pride in our commitment to preserving historic properties while incorporating modern enhancements for improved functionality and energy efficiency.
